A proficient musician and scholar…

John Guzik is a professional artist whose work has spanned throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe. He is the Artistic Director of the Montreal ensemble Seraphim Chamber Choir, and as well as the conductor for a diverse list of ensembles from McGill’s University Chorus, the Deutcher Chor Montreal, the Iasi State Choir and Bacau Philharmonic Orchestra in Romania, and the International Sarteano Chamber Choir in Tuscany, Italy. He has been the Chorus Master for the opera company La Compagnie Baroque Mont-Royal, and Artistic Director for the production of Jan Dismas Zelenka’s concerted Mass Missa votiva. As a professional lyric tenor, John has appeared regularly with Viva Voce, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus, and Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal. He is engaged as the Music Director at the National Historic Site of St. Patrick’s Basilica, Montreal.

At the Schulich School of Music of McGill University, John Guzik lectures in Musicianship and Conducting methods and holds a Doctor of Music specializing in Choral Conducting. He has shared his interests with the Canadian choral community through publications in the journal Anacrusis and has presented this research at the national conferences PODIUM (2018, 2022). In his career, he has had the privilege of working with renowned conductors Simon Carrington, Nicholas Cleobury, Andrew Megill, Jean-Sebastien Vallee, Julian Wachner, and others. John Guzik has recordings on the ATMA label, Canadian Broadcast Corporation, Radio-Canada, Espace Musique, as well as live chamber concert broadcasts and special television features for Radio-Canada.
